In Homeowner Tips by Molly Radabaugh1 Comment

Painting your house but don’t know where to start? Sound Painting Solutions is here to help! Some methods are more expensive and time consuming than others, so we have broken it down into 3 options with varying prices. Read on to learn about 3 ways to find your perfect paint color.

(1) Utilize mobile apps and online resources

Color Portfolio By Benjamin Moore

Benjamin Moore has an extremely user friendly tool for IOS and Android called Color Portfolio. It allows you to take a photo of a room within the app, and the app virtually alters the wall to the color of your choice. This app is helpful because it has all of the Benjamin Moore colors available to test out. It’s a great option to narrow down your color selection to a few final colors. This way you don’t need to buy multiple cans of paint that you won’t end up using.

Stain Visualizer by Olympic Wood

Another great online resource is the Wood Stain Visualizer program by Olympic Wood. This virtual program helps you decide on wood finishes for outdoor projects like a deck or patio. The program takes into account the project type, the type of wood, and the condition of the wood.

(2) Go into a paint store

This method requires you to go into a paint store, buy each paint, and test out each paint on the walls or surfaces you plan to paint. This can be beneficial because you can compare each paint swatch on walls, siding, and trim in person, in your own house. However, this adds the extra step of taking a trip to the store.

Average cost of a sample size of paint (pint): $5-$7

(3) Hire a color consultant

Although the most expensive, this method is extremely effective. A color consultant combines their knowledge of color psychology, current trends, demographic statistics, and color design theories. Therefore, they can provide ideas and solutions that perfectly fit your space and personal style.

Average cost of a color consultant: $300-$600
